The Highs and Lows of being a Blackpool fan
Most of us have seen some quite dramatic seasons following this club from play off kings as well as relegation candidates but one period where we went from one extreme to the other must be in the period from april 70 to april 71.
At the end of the 70 campaign many of us would have been at Deepdale for that Monday clash with the Northenders, Pickering's hat-trick and finishing behind Huddersfield to go up to the first division (the top division in those days).
The next season quite different, three managers and if I am correct five goal keepers in Neil Ramsbottom, Harry Thomson, Adam Blacklaw, Alan Taylor and the youngster John Burridge and what a wonderful introduction at Goodison for him late on in the season.
Jimmy Armfield's last match ended the campaign in front of a massive 30,000 crowd but unfortunately also relegation from the top division in just twelve months and for me the drive back to Liverpool was in sharp contrast to how I felt a year earlier after Deepdale.
Not all was lost there was a sting in the tale, for Blackpool won the Anglo-Italian tournament in Bologna thanks to an extra time winner from Mickey Burns, ending an extraordinary twelve months.

Great times, I remember alot of that particularly the Pickering hat-trick. Burridge was a great character and a good goalie. Seem to also remember watching the Anglo-Italian match on tv or did I just see the highlights? Great goal from Burns.

Full Anglo Italian final televised..........as I recall it was one of the most entertaining matches I have seen. Blackpool also set a few records during that tournament. Reached the final the following year but lost 2-1.

I and three pals went by car to the 72 final in Rome, but it was a 3-1 defeat unfortunately.

The vitamin D deficiency caused by living under that big shadow from the other end of the M55 is on hell of a low.

We topped our vitamin D up in May 2010 at Wembley. If I recall both the weather and result was brilliant

I'll never forget April 1970. Remember Crowy (RIP) chasing PNE off there old kop single-handed. Oi, you old timers, anyone remember last time PNE took the old Blackpool Kop? (in days before seats and security men - when football was fun). Nob, Thor, eatcha ask yer dad. Best game for atmosphere I can remember till play-off final v ccfc.
