What might have been...
Huddersfield have just agreed a £10m deal to sign Aaron Mooy from City, who they had on loan last season.

17 days after the playoff final.

What a difference when you have a fan as chairman - compared to us with the Oystons, who going into the PL season had about 4 players.

As I walked out off Wembley I said to my pal, the fans will believe some decent players are on the cards for next season, but I believe they will be disappointed.

As I have said before I was saying this as I was driving back from Wembley. The other passengers in the car were thinking the SCUM would invest some of the windfall. Didn't take them long to come round to my way of thinking.

I think most people accepted that the windfall would only fall one way. Most fans weren't deluded enough to expect a new era of top flight football. What they did expect was for the club to be able to stabilise and be a contesting Championship club.
What nobody expected was for the owners to go to war with their fan base.

Looking back at how I was feeling at the time, yes - I thought we'd get a couple of names and we did in players like Marlon (and even Beattie - he was shit but he was a name signing) but at the time it was really about keeping the best of our players and we did. Charlie, Vaughn, GTF, Gnashers, Gilks, Baps, Crainey, Evatt, Gilks etc all stayed.

Holloway went on the hunt and brought in some obscure quality - Sylvestre, Grandin, Angel.

As for expectation, I think you're right Bally - we expected to be a competing Championship club (we got to the final again at the next time of asking) so for a while we were but then Ollie left and the wheels fell off.

Don't forget though, with the squad we got with promotion, for a while we were a competing Pemier League club.

Also a £7m offer for Tom Ince rejected by Derby...

They want to be careful or they'll do a Portsmouth.

Edit - make that £7m!

The difference is, the Huddersfield funding isn't in loans that'll destroy the club when recalled.

Another club with a fan as chairman. Derby, I mean. Sensible spending at DCFC. Like PNE, always going to struggle to make play-offs, but they maintain Championship status.

The loans are written off,

Sorry to disappoint.
