Pity this thread drifted into a racist theme when you remember the problems Cyrille Regis had to contend with on and off the field.
RIP JA, CR and DA.

Spot on, Tony.

Thank God Nobber isn't here to derail threads...

So many differences in our fanbase, it's like we're actually looking for more reasons to hate each other instead of getting ready to be a united club again. Gentleman Jim deserved better than this.

(great post Whits btw)

England legends Frank Swift and Jimmy Armfield are set to be honoured with permanent memorials in their hometown of Blackpool.

Swift, the Manchester City keeper who 70 years ago this week captained the Three Lions to a sensational 4-0 victory over world champions Italy in Turin, is to have a plaque placed at the town's Revoe Library.

And Armfield, the Blackpool and England captain who also managed Leeds to the 1975 European Cup final, will also be remembered with a plaque at the nearby Revoe Learning Academy, which both men attended.

The memorials have been financed by the PFA and will be unveiled at ceremonies on September 6.

Swift, born in Blackpool in 1913, began his career with Fleetwood Town before moving to City in 1932 and helping the Blues win the FA Cup and League title.

He later worked as a journalist and was tragically killed in the air crash at Munich that decimated Matt Busby's great Manchester United babes team in 1958.

Armfield also earned a living as a journalist after his playing and managerial days came to an end.

Born in Manchester, his family were evacuated to the seaside town during the war and he spent his entire 17-year career with Blackpool. He passed away earlier this year at the age of 82.

PFA chairman Gordon Taylor will attend the unveiling of both plaques, as well as officials from Manchester City, Blackpool, Manchester United and Fleetwood and family members of both men.

Revoe Learning Academy are also set to honour Swift and Armfield with murals by the side of a new football playground pitch that is being laid at the school.
