1-1 with a yellow for us in stoppage time so we finish second.

I wonder if Southgate will ring the changes. The advantage of doing this is that finishing runner up looks preferable although there is an argument to say momentum is key. Some possible changes:

Cahill for Maguire
Rose for Young
Arnold for Trippier
Dier for Henderson
Rashford for Sterling
Vardy for Kane
Ali back in for Loftus Cheek

2-1 England.
Vardy (bit late, suffering from the heat. Me, not Vardy)

World Cup 2018: Is it easier if England finish second in group?

3-3 Lingard

Something tells me this is a repeat of the Danes and Frogs arranged outing t'other night.

England 0-0 Belgium

SmokinPool is good at this predicting stuff. I think he was born in a bookies.Biggrin

No injuries, no cards should be the plan.

It does look like 2nd place is the easier road, but if we beat them I'll stop ignoring the 'it's coming home' themes and memes running through all social media.

Ha you may not be far from the truth there GSP!

The next knock-out round is where things are less complicated when you can back the qualifier, taking the draw out of play. Hopefully I can get another roll going like I did a few years ago Party

Another fact about this evening that may be of interest is that the identity of the opposition in the next round will be known. I doubt either Belgium or our boys will want to meet Colombia. Picked up after a bad, but unfortunate, start, they are a maverick team who can oust anyone on their day. So avoiding them could yet be a factor in tonight's big game.

The draw is still the best bet though I say.

It must also be noted that winning the group means if England win their round of 16 game, then they go into a Quarter FInal against, most likely, Brazil. Coming second means facing Sweden or Switzerland.

I know which route I would rather travel.

That's why tonight doesn't matter too much. Win would be nice as it will show that we compete against the better nations and if we don't, then at least we are in the better side of the draw.

Columbia have just won their group. There is an argument to say we want to avoid them so finishing top would also have this advantage.
